Working from home – Top Tips!

It’s an interesting time in our lives where most of us are being asked to work from home and adjusting to new ways of working and living, and we’re here to help provide you with some inspiration to make WFH easier.
 

  1. First things first, get changed out of your Pjs every morning. It'll help get you in the right headspace for work and prepare you for the day ahead.
     
  2. Wear shoes. Sounds weird and but putting your shoes automatically puts you into the mind-set that you’ve got somewhere to be (and yes your living room is a destination) because let’s be honest, you wouldn’t be chilling in your office with your fluffy socks.
     
  3. Select a dedicated workspace. Your dining table or living room or if you are super creative you can create a cool workspace in your kitchen.

  4. Try to keep your bedroom as a sacred space for sleeping and relaxing. It'll help create a work-life divide.
     
  5. Create a schedule with times. I know this sounds simple but if you have scheduled yourself tasks against times and break it up with calls throughout the day, it will help work efficiently and meet your deadlines before your calls.
     
  6. In most cases, it’s likely that you aren't home alone. Maybe you've got a roommate (or two), live with a partner, or have your kids at home as well. Communicate with each on your schedules, so if you have a video call with your co-workers and need a quiet background. WFH
  7. Take frequent breaks so you don't burn out. Stick on an episode of Friends or Derry Girls that doesn’t require much concentration (just make sure it’s one episode though!)
     
  8. Avoid housework and chores randomly throughout the day. It’s easier said than done, but that laundry basket will still be there at 5.30pm.
     
  9. Be sure to socialise after work, even if it's just a video call, to keep the loneliness at bay.
     
  10. Switch off at the end of the day. It’s important to sign out and turn off notifications for work-related email and instant messaging when the day is over. Working from home doesn’t mean you are required to work 24/7.
